Climate change

Climate change is a serious environmental problem that affects us all, but what is climate change. According to National Geographic it is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, due to burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas.

When these fossil fuels burn, they release greenhouse gases - mostly carbon dioxide (CO2). These gases trap the Sun's heat and cause the planet's temperature to rise.

Though our planet’s forests and oceans absorb greenhouse gases from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and other processes, these natural carbon sinks can’t keep up with our rising emissions. The resulting buildup of greenhouse gases is causing alarmingly fast warming worldwide.

How will it affect?

Many people think climate change just means warmer temperaturas but is more that it because it is connected with others meteorological phenomena.

Changes in ecosystems will cause extinction of species, It will cause the melting of the ice at the poles, and It will cause extreme weather phenomena as instense hurricanes, floods, drought and rain. Also It will also decrease biodiversity.

According to the World Health Organization, “climate change will cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year” between 2030 and 2050.

What can we do?

  • Turn off lights and appliances when you don’t need them.
  • Eat lees meat (produce methane)
  • When you go to work you will leave the car at home and walk, or you will use public transport.
  • You will respect and protect green spaces.
  • You will reduce your  consumption  and waste.
Remember...The world, my home
